Hesse’s Finance Minister Thomas Schäfer christens the new four-man bobsled
On March 18, 2014, the Steinmühlen rowers from the “Rudern und Sport Marburg e.V.” club welcomed a distinguished visitor. In the presence of representatives from the city of Marburg and the district, the Hessian Minister of Finance christened the newly acquired coxless four “Premium.”
In his welcoming remarks, Mr. Jöllenbeck, as chairman of the school association and former principal, highlighted the school’s long rowing tradition and its commitment to inclusion through the rowing partnership with the Marburg Institute for the Blind. Mr. Jöllenbeck took advantage of the minister’s presence to express, on behalf of the school, his gratitude to the state government, which, through the new Alternative School Funding Act, has made a significant contribution to the planning security of independently operated schools. Jochen Lembke, the principal of the Carl-Strehl-Schule (BliStA), spontaneously echoed this sentiment.
Speaking on behalf of the boarding school, Sascha Buurmann highlighted the importance of rowing. As a longtime member of the Steinmühle rowing team, he made a compelling case for continuing to promote rowing at Steinmühle.
And then it was the rowers’ turn; after the minister’s christening ceremony, they took over the boat and put in a brisk training session. They were clearly having fun with their new piece of sports equipment.
