Meeting with Retired Colleagues

Archive, News

On October 9, 2015, the school invited its former colleagues to its annual get-together over coffee and cake.

Principals Gemmer and Holly reported on the school’s progress over the past few months, sparking great interest among the “alumni.”

This year’s focus was on two topics: first, “Evaluation and Feedback in the Classroom,” and second, the issue of “Admitting Fourteen Young Refugees,” who—if all goes well—will be guided through the Abitur program at Steinmühle. Managing Director Mr. Konnertz and the director of the refugee project, Ms. Herfert, were able to provide comprehensive information on the current status of these matters.

During a tour of the school grounds, the “alumni” were able to take a look at the rooms that had been prepared for the young refugees. The presentation of the new upper-level lounge, “Route 66,” also clearly demonstrated how the school has changed.

Success for all participants in the Cambridge exam

Archive, News

On September 28, 2015, more students received their “CAMBRIDGE” English language certificates from Mr. Gemmer and Ms. Hohm. The Cambridge English exams assess the four language skills: writing, reading, listening, and speaking. The certificates are recognized by universities, institutions, and companies worldwide.

The students took the exam on June 27, 2015, and all of them passed; two of them even achieved Level C1.

The following have reached Level C1:

Charlotte Lange (with the best score / center of the photo) and Julian Schneider.

The “Cambridge English Advanced” (C1) is the second-highest level that can be achieved. With this certificate, Charlotte and Julian would be eligible to study at universities in the United Kingdom.

The following students have reached Level B2:

Moonjeong Kang, Charlotte Mauersberger, Shara Schmitz, Gerrit Fröhlich, Fabian Grigat, Leonard Zemlin, Lukas Hoss, Jannes Kühn, Nina Hübner, Laura Kemeny.

With this certificate, these students would have met the language requirement for potential naturalization in the United Kingdom.

The Steinmühle WK II soccer team (grades 8–10) wins the city championship in the “Youth Trains for the Olympics” competition with ease

Archive, News

On September 24, the Steinmühle soccer team dominated the city tournament with three wins and a goal differential of 19–4. Last year’s successful team, bolstered by players born in 2000, thus seamlessly built on the successes of the previous school year, when they finished in a respectable fourth place at the state tournament.

Even in the 6-1 victory over the Emil von Behring School The team led by captain Jonas Pfalz put on a dominant performance. The 9-2 victory over the Sophie of Brabant School highlighted the difference in class among the teams. In the final game against the Elisabeth School At first, our team faced much stiffer resistance and, due to a lapse in concentration, fell behind 0–1. In the end, however, the team that played the better game prevailed, winning 4–1.

In addition to a very consistent and cohesive team performance, the three forwards—Jakob Reinhard, Tim Tumberger, and Jannis Borsdorf—in particular demonstrated their scoring prowess, each netting 5 goals.

Steinmühlen Rowers Succeed at the Youth Regatta on September 19–20, 2015, in Großauheim (Hanau)

Archive, News

Students from Steinmühle who row for RuS Steinmühle competed in the short-distance regatta for young rowers in Großauheim, South Hesse.

Of particular note is the victory of 12-year-old Kaija Feldmann (Class 7a) in the girls’ single sculls—in her very first race!

The 13-year-old boys’ four, consisting of Jonas Neirich (8a), Bennet Meier (9a), Karl Nagel (9c), and Dustin Brömer (8c), with coxswain Leon Vielhaben, took strong second and third-place finishes.

The 12- and 13-year-old boys also rowed and competed brilliantly in the four, with Moritz Mägerlein (7a), Luca Hahn (7a), Lasse Jacob (7a), Paul Weber (7a), and coxswain Kaija Feldmann (7a).

In his first single sculls race, Leon Sauer (10d) didn’t make it to the podium, but he proved himself to be a strong sculler against the established specialists.

Coach Martin Strohmenger expressed his great satisfaction: “The boys and girls already have well-developed rowing technique, and as they gain more experience, we’ll have the next generation of top rowers—if everyone stays this enthusiastic and committed.”

Fall Festival 2015

Archive, News

At the Fall Festival on September 26, there was once again a wide variety of activities, including physical activities, presentations, games, all kinds of food and drinks, and a great musical program on the schoolyard stage.

In addition to the diverse culinary offerings, here are just a few highlights: the LEGO Mindstorms robot from the WU Computer Science department, the soccer speed measurement system from class 10d, the spectacular chemistry lab from the 11th-grade advanced chemistry class, the climbing wall in the gym, the chess course from the chess club, and … and … and …

Several musical groups helped create a great atmosphere at the festival grounds: “Bläserklasse 6,” “Talea Funk & Evelyn Damer,” the international group “Michael Wever – WU,” the “Stonemill Houseband,” and the “Coutch Potatoes.”

The highlight of this year’s Fall Festival was the unveiling of a new work of art that will greet all visitors to Steinmühle at the Forum in the future: two half-boats arranged in a new configuration—a work of art that immediately captures the viewer’s attention. Ms. Vielhaben received plenty of compliments for her work.

Rowing was another highlight of the Fall Festival. Two new rowing boats were christened by Björn Backes, head of the sports department, and outgoing District President Lars Witteck, and money was raised (through a raffle) to support Lucas Schäfer’s Olympic aspirations.

As is tradition, the evening was filled with socializing, reminiscing, and joyful celebrations. The boarding school’s kitchen provided the culinary delights, while “The Suited” and the senior citizens’ band “The Savage,” featuring Michael Wever, provided musical entertainment for the guests.
