"Jugend forscht" at Steinmühle

Since 2017, Steinmühle School & Boarding School has regularly participated in the “Jugend forscht” competition and has since achieved numerous successes in both age groups at the regional, state, and national levels.

“Jugend forscht” is Germany’s best-known competition for young scientists. Its goal is to inspire young people to take an interest in mathematics, computer science, the natural sciences, and technology, as well as to identify and nurture talent.

Children, teenagers, and young adults from 4th grade through age 21 are eligible to participate. Anyone who wants to take part should come up with an interesting research question for their project. The winners will receive attractive cash and non-cash prizes.

Open Lab & Young Researchers

School with a twist: Here, you decide what to do!

Want to do some research? Interested in “Jugend forscht” or other science competitions and experiments? Then come to the Steinmühle Lab (Rooms 126 and 127) every Tuesday and Friday from 2:00 p.m. to about 4:00 p.m.

The “Open Lab” is a program for students who would like to work on their own questions or research projects in addition to their regular science classes.

All students at Steinmühle (all grade levels) who are interested in conducting their own research and experiments in the fields of biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, computer science, technology, astronomy, and earth sciences.

Here, you can experiment, explore, and just have fun with science!

We support students who would like to participate in a STEM competition. This could be “Jugend forscht,” but also the Biology or Chemistry Olympiad, the International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO), the Dechemax Competition, etc.

We can help you choose a topic for “Jugend forscht,” carry out experiments to explore your research questions and projects, and document your results.

In high school, an “Special Academic Achievement” can also be used to substitute for an Abitur course. It consists of a comprehensive project and can, for example, be an entry in a competition such as “Jugend forscht” or participation in an Olympiad in the STEM field.

Students who wish to complete a special learning project in the fifth exam subject may submit a request to the school administration or upper-level administration no later than the beginning of the second year of the qualification phase (Q3), specifying the supervising teacher. We can advise you on this in the open lab.
