At the Steinmühle Bilingual Elementary School, students in grades 3 and 4 play various instruments as beginners in the Elementary School Band Club.
At the Steinmühle boarding school, young people play various instruments on Thursdays at 4:30 p.m., even if they have no prior experience.
Olaf Roth directs both bands. In some cases, there is collaboration with the Marburg Music School.
Even for experienced instrumentalists
As part of the extracurricular activities program, students in grades 5 and 6 have the option to join the “Band” class. This is suitable for both beginners and students with prior experience.
From 7th grade through 13th grade, interested students can play music in the StoneMill House Band, which includes students from all grade levels. The band meets on Fridays from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The focus is on collaborative teamwork and developing an annual program during a rehearsal weekend in Wolfshausen near Marburg, where members work together to select songs and create arrangements.
In 2013, the StoneMill House Band gave rise to a smaller jazz ensemble, which rehearses on Fridays from 3 to 4 p.m.
A small musical band is also formed each year for the second half of the school year. It accompanies the annual musical performed by the 5th-grade classes before summer break.
In addition to these bands led by Frank Wemme, duos and bands frequently form at the Steinmühle through the initiative of young musicians.
All of the bands listed here, starting with the Elementary School Band Club, have the opportunity each spring at “Bands on Stage” to showcase their talents professionally during a diverse evening of music. The contact person for Bands on Stage is Frank Wemme.
Other performances include the Fall Festival in September and the end-of-year celebration in December.
