Cultural Evening on November 19 — Highlights from the Classroom, Ready for the Stage

Archive, News

For over 20 years, students at Steinmühle have been taking to the stage at the Cultural Evening to present what they have prepared for performance together with their teachers in class and in extracurricular clubs.

This year, the audience was treated to a particularly appealing program:

The Zumba performance by Ms. Sersch’s 5th- and 6th-grade students provided a lively start to the event.

Students in grades 5, 6, and 11 presented a variety of entertaining film and game clips from their foreign language classes.

Student Sam Kemkes (8c), together with his brother Finn (6b), gave the audience a glimpse into the world of puppeteers.

Musical highlights were provided by the “Duo Schlegel+Laackman,” the jazz ensemble “The Suited,” and Mr. Wever and his students, who sang songs from around the world.

In the Drama/Theater department, Class 8b presented a dramatization of Inge Deutschkron’s story, and the upperclassmen wowed the audience with their performance of “Klatschkäse.”

Guests watched winter training and the christening of “Louis”

Archive, News

Strength, Endurance, and Circuit Training: The RuS presented the athletic program for rowers during the cold season to invited guests and, at the same time, introduced its inclusion project, in which visually impaired youth from the Blinda Institute (Blista) row together with sighted rowers. At the Steinmühle sports hall, Chairman Dietrich Mägerlein welcomed Joachim Lembke, principal of the Carl-Strehl School, Claus Duncker, managing director of Blista; Mr. Jäger, a member of the school association; as well as the collaborating teachers Birgit Göbel and Joseph Berland from Blista, and Mr. Strohmenger, the rowing coach. Mr. Gemmer, the school principal and also vice president of RuS, guided the audience through the program and outlined the milestones of the successful collaboration between the two schools, which has taken root in a short time and is continually expanding. The premiere of the short film “Rowing in the Dark,” which Ms. Vielhaben had produced in class, was met with great enthusiasm and once again brought the topic much closer to the parents, guests, representatives of various institutions, and friends of rowing who were in attendance. Claus Duncker and Joachim Lembke from BliStA christened another boat “Louis” in honor of Louis Braille, the inventor of Braille. As more and more young people are choosing to join RuS, the club is grateful for any additional equipment.

At the sidelines of the event, some welcome news circulated: Harald Blum, state coach of the Hessian Rowing Association (HRV), has appointed our rowers Leon Sauer and Mi n Joon Kang as well as Dustin Brömer as coxswain to the HRV’s flagship boat.

Steinmühlen Soccer Tournament on November 14 2014

Archive, News

This year’s Steinmühlen Soccer Tournament featured six teams from the school and boarding school. In a friendly and sportsmanlike atmosphere, the teams played exciting matches at the highest technical level. The soccer players in grades 11 and 12, in particular, delivered first-class performances. Many players in these grades play high-level soccer for Marburg club teams (e.g., the Hessenliga). So it came as no surprise that these two teams battled it out for the tournament title. In the end, after a long, closely contested final, the “Classic XI” team from grade 11 prevailed and, with a decisive 4–1 victory, deservedly became the 2014 Steinmühlen Champion.

The Teams:

Team A – Mixed Team, Grades 10–11

Team B – “Classic XI” 11th Grade

Team C – “The VisuallySuperior” 12th Grade

Generation Online – Event on Online Behavior

Archive, News

On November 13, 2014, Mecodia held an information session for lower-grade students and their parents on the media world of young people; this event series was made possible by Sparkasse Marburg-Biedenkopf.

During an evening event, interested parents, teachers, and educators had the opportunity to get a glimpse into the world of WhatsApp and Facebook and learn about online safety. The services most commonly used by young people were demonstrated live, and recommendations were provided for their safe use.

On the same day, 90-minute workshops on the topic “Mobile Media Use—Staying Safe on the Go” were held for all 6th and 7th-grade classes, during which questions were discussed with the students and guidance was provided:

  • What kinds of media are young people engaging with today?
  • What makes the various programs for young people so appealing?
  • What are the opportunities and risks of new media?
  • What do young people need to know and be able to do in order to use media effectively?

High level of interest at the information sessions for future 5th graders

Archive, Uncategorized

I wonder who will be joining the 5th grade at Steinmühle on September 8, 2015? It’s an exciting question for parents, students, and, not least, the school itself.

Steinmühle had invited parents to information sessions in early November, which generated a great deal of interest. At the information session on November 5, the school administration presented the structure of Steinmühle to interested parents and provided details about its unique features.

On November 8, parents and children were given a tour of the school as part of an open house. The young students watched interesting experiments from science class, took part in a special kind of physical education class, got to try their hand at pottery, and listened to the 6th-grade brass band, while their parents had the opportunity to learn firsthand from the school’s parent representatives about their experiences at Steinmühle.
