Have fun at the 5th and 6th grade spring run!

Archive

Paula Auschill and Luca Baalbaki were the fastest

There was a great atmosphere and plenty of competitive spirit at this year’s spring run for grades 5 and 6.

In terms of athletic performance, the boys from the 5th-grade classes delivered impressive results, while the girls from the 6th-grade classes put on a spirited run. Luca Baalbaki (5c) and Paula Auschill (6a) were in a league of their own.

Overall, the results were very impressive, as everyone gave it their all. And combined with the great atmosphere at the award ceremonies, the afternoon turned into a real sports festival.

Former Colleagues Visit

Archive, Uncategorized

On the second try, the event finally went ahead as planned: On May 12, 2017, the two principals, along with Ms. Opper (representing the works council) and Ms. Andersch (representing the faculty), welcomed interested former colleagues over coffee and cake.

After Mr. Holly’s opening remarks, Mr. Gemmer outlined the two major upcoming projects: first, the start of construction on the middle school building this summer, and second, the plans for a bilingual track. The “Marburg Bilingual School” is scheduled to launch in a year. There were also additional announcements regarding everyday school life under “Other Business.”

There was great interest in the development of the stone mill, and lively discussions took place among the attendees.

The next alumni event is scheduled for spring 2018. Until then, you can read about upcoming events on the Steinmühlen website and in SteinmühlenMagazin.

Tennis Team Reaches the Hessen Final

Archive, News

The Steinmühlen tennis team has once again reached the Hesse finals this year in the “Youth Trains for the Olympics” competition in Category II (mixed teams)

Since no other school in the district had registered, the Steinmühlen team automatically qualified for the regional competition on May 17 in Wetzlar. Following the restructuring of the Hessian regions, five schools competed in Wetzlar for a spot in the state finals.

Group stage:

The Steinmühle team had to face play against the schools from Herborn and Bad Vilbel to advance to the semifinals.

In the first match against the Johanneum from Herborn , Steinmühle won three of the four singles matches. As a result, the outcome of the match was still up in the air heading into the two doubles matches and the mixed doubles, since Steinmühle needed to win at least one of those three remaining matches to secure the victory. The girls’ doubles team achieved this with a commanding victory, allowing Steinmühle to ultimately secure a well-deserved win with a score of 8–6 .

The second match of the group stage against the school from Bad Vilbel ended with a score of 3–11 . However, against a very strong opponent, the Steinmühle players demonstrated their potential in many closely contested rallies. With a bit more consistency, one or two matches could have gone differently. To reach the semifinals, our team was now dependent on help from the school in Bad Vilbel. The match between Bad Vilbel and Herborn was surprisingly close for a long time, but in the end, Bad Vilbel prevailed 8–6, thereby securing our team’s spot in the semifinals.

Semifinals:

In the semifinal against the Taunusschule from Bad Camberg , Steinmühle took a 6–2 lead after winning three singles matches convincingly. After both doubles teams also secured clear victories, the final score was 10–4, setting up a rematch in the final against Bad Vilbel, whom they had faced in the preliminary round.

Final:

After their convincing semifinal victory, the team was fired up to face Bad Vilbel and went into the match brimming with confidence and a strong will to win. Many of the matches in the encounter were of high quality and very exciting. After the first four singles matches, the score was tied at 4–4, as both girls had won their matches convincingly, thereby offsetting the points lost in the boys’ singles. Once again, the final three matches would decide the outcome. In both doubles matches, the Steinmühle players once again demonstrated their full range of skills and gave their opponents no chance with their aggressive, high-pressure tennis. In the end, the team celebrated a narrow but well-deserved 8–6 victory.

With this victory, the tennis team qualified for the state finals for the second time in a row, albeit with a slightly different lineup.
