In the regional round of the “Youth Trains for the Olympics” basketball competition in Competition Class IV, the Steinmühlen team won convincingly against strong competition from North Hesse and Marburg (Philippinum).
While our girls were able to clearly outscore the teams from the Ense School in Bad Wildungen (42–17) and the Alte Landesschule in Korbach (47–17), the match against the strong team from the Philippinum would ultimately decide the outcome: Our players, who were slight favorites, started the game understandably nervous. They held the lead throughout, but weren’t able to pull away decisively until the final five minutes. Our girls’ experience ultimately prevailed, and in the end, they secured a fairly decisive 39–28 victory.
On May 7, 2014, the Steinmühlen team will be competing for the Hesse title.
We congratulate coach T. Nauheimer and his team: Milena Bückendorf (7b), Hannah Busch (7b), Hannah Hartmann (7b), Sophie Bartsch (6b), Luisa Bietz (6b), Neele Pick (6b), and Merle Schweitzer (6b).
