Social engagement matters to society

Collaborations & Partnerships, News, Politics, Business & Responsibility, Social Engagement

With their report cards and several awards for special achievements both inside and outside of school, Steinmühle sent its students off on summer break today. Grades may be important to some. But volunteer work in the social sector is particularly highly valued at Steinmühle. For example, Upper School Director Constanze Oestreicher-Gold had already highlighted the commitment of Elsa Stremme (left) and her two classmates, Leticia Günther (center) and Amelie Laukel, all from the 12th grade, as exemplary. The trio, along with other students from various grade levels, received recognition for their outstanding contributions in the social sector.

Support for Children with Leukemia and Cancer

During a personal conversation, we learned that Elsa, Leticia, and Amelie have been supporting the organization “Parents’ Initiative for Children with Leukemia and Cancer” for years—on a volunteer basis and consistently. Their commitment is quiet and unassuming, focused on children of various ages and their parents, who are often overwhelmed by the situation and, as Elsa Stremme puts it, “grateful for any help.” It’s the presence of these three Steinmühlen students—their willingness to lend a hand at events or read to children, their willingness to listen to questions, their reassuring words, their advice, and their intuition for instinctively sensing who needs help at any given moment and how best to provide it. “We’re here to do whatever we can,” says Elsa Stremme. The three high school students help organize events and workshops, contribute creative ideas, and shop for supplies for barbecues.

“It’s nice to see them doing better”

It would be untrue to claim that the three young women are not deeply moved by the children’s plight. The young people affected by illness at the Parents’ Initiative for Children with Leukemia and Cancer are up to 18 years old or just a little older, and the progression of their illnesses is part of what Elsa, Leticia, and Amelie witness. “We’ve gotten to know the children by now,” they say, “and it’s so wonderful to see them grow their hair back after chemo. To see them feeling better again.”

Families Share Their Fate

The Parents’ Initiative for Children with Leukemia and Cancer is located at Steinweg 34 in Marburg. For many affected children and adolescents—as well as their parents—it serves as a safe haven where they can meet others who share their circumstances. Precisely because they understand how important this is, the association’s members welcome anyone who wants to help. This can mean lending a hand, making monetary donations, or even donating specific items—provided these are arranged in advance. You can contact the parents’ initiative by phone or email; see the website at https://eltkmr.de/.

(Coverage of all awards ceremonies on the last day of school will be included in the yearbook)

Wonderful performances in front of a packed house at the summer concert

Art, Music & Theater, News

When the summer concert rolls around, everyone at Steinmühle knows: Summer vacation is just around the corner! At this event, students from all grade levels showcase the musical skills they’ve acquired over the past months and years.

High-quality vocals and instrumentation

The 5th-grade wind ensemble, led by Stephan Reissig, opened the event, which drew a full house to our school’s auditorium. The impressive violin performance by fifth-grader Juna Bamberger then demonstrated the high musical standard of Steinmühle.

The 6th-grade choir, accompanied on the piano by Daniel Sans and conducted by Anna Prokop, sang with full vocal power before Janna Gosejacob (8th grade) performed “Hometown Glory” by singer Adele. Joshua Müller-Brodmann (Grade 12) continued the impressive musical performances with a Chopin piece on the piano, followed by Nik Tadjiki (Grade 11), who played a piece by Paul de Senneville on the same instrument.

This was followed by a trombone trio performance by twelfth-graders Per Hübl and Christian Savage, along with their instructor, trombonist Andreas Jamin.

The Joy of Making Music and Performing

At the piano, Minghzou Yan (12th grade) transported the audience into the musical world of Johann Sebastian Bach for a few minutes. Gojus Kanes (11th grade) then brought the piano performances to an impressive close with a piece by Johannes Brahms.

The summer concert concluded with impressive performances by the 6th-grade wind ensemble, led by Andreas Jamin, and Stephan Reissig’s concert band. These groups feature young artists who continue to enjoy making music and performing for audiences as they progress through their school years.

The Steinmühle would like to thank all the teachers and technical staff involved for their dedicated efforts, without which such impressive events as the summer concert would not be possible.

Prevailed Against Other High Schools: Steinmühle Wins the Abi Cup

Contests & Awards, News, Sports & Health

Well, if the upcoming school year goes as well for the class of 2026 as the Abi-Cup did, then we can sit back and relax. The future Steinmühlen high school seniors won this tournament against teams from other local high schools, took home the trophy along with 300 euros in prize money, and had hours of fun.

About 400 fans had gathered at the Marburg Sportpark to cheer on the teams from Steinmühle, Martin Luther School (MLS), Marburg Commercial Schools (KSM), Elisabeth School, Philippinum, and Alfred Wegener School from Kirchhain. Steinmühle got off to a great start right away. They dominated their opponent, Philippinum, from the very beginning and walked off the field with a 3–0 victory thanks to goals by Theo von Campenhausen, Tim Laukel, and Sinan Heinzmann.

The tension mounted

The intense match between Steinmühle and KSM ended in a 0-0 draw. Two well-prepared teams faced off against each other. In Game 3, the semifinal, our team emerged victorious with a 2–1 win over the Alfred-Wegener-Schule from Kirchhain. No doubt due to the fact that staying in the tournament was at stake, the level of physical play had intensified on both sides. The referee responded by issuing yellow cards to both teams. The goal scorers for Steinmühle were Tim Laukel and Ron Georg.

Game-winning goal by Theo von Campenhausen

In the fourth game, the final between Steinmühle and MLS, it wasn’t clear from the start how things would ultimately play out. The spectators witnessed a showdown between two strong teams, with MLS dominating the first half. In the second half, the tide turned, particularly with one shot on goal: Theo von Campenhausen’s goal gave Steinmühle a 1-0 victory and, with it, the tournament title.

The Steinmühlen team consisted of Theo Seifert (coach), Ben Hantelmann (goalkeeper), Theo von Campenhausen, Damian Vogel, Leon Schmidt, Max Preidel, Laurin Immisch, Sinan Hinzmann, Victor Teres Loytved, Tim Laukel, Tim Gasparic, Ron Georg, and Luca Krantz. A special thank you goes to the last four players mentioned—all 11th graders—who stepped in to provide reinforcement and help the 12th-grade team cope with absences due to illness and injury.

Friends of the School Association Sponsored Jerseys

“We’d also like to thank the exceptionally well-organized event organizer, KSM, who also provided food and drinks, organized the raffle, the escort kids, and the Champions League anthem at
,” says Rebecca Zenker, who was in charge of organizing the jerseys and the team within Steinmühle. In this context, she also extends a big thank you to Jasmine Weidenbach, the chairwoman of the Steinmühle Support Association, for sponsoring the jerseys.

Together with Anna Reinhardt and Nele Schultheis, Rebecca Zenker also documented the tournament on Instagram and TikTok. Hessein Koheil filmed a highlight reel of the tournament. The Steinmühlen team provided wonderful support from the sidelines, keeping spirits high and motivation strong. – What a great effort you all put in together! We’re proud of you!
