Want to learn to ride? Feel more confident in the saddle? Earn your riding badge? — The Steinmühle Riding School offers the perfect opportunity to do just that during summer vacation. Our riding school has been certified by the German Equestrian Federation (international designation: Fédération Nationale, FN) and awarded three stars.
The lessons are led by Beate Schridde. She holds an A-level coaching license, has completed additional training in “Horseback Riding as a Health Sport,” and has many years of experience as a coach and active rider. She herself regularly competes successfully in national and international tournaments in the disciplines of dressage, cross-country, and show jumping, and competes in show jumping up to the highest level.
The following horseback riding courses are offered:
Summer riding course from June 25 to July 6, 2018, with an exam for riding badges, levels 6 through 10 (depending on skill level)
Target audience: Beginners and advanced riders ages 6 and up
Dates: Monday, June 25, through Friday, June 6. 07. Daily from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., except Saturdays and Sundays.
Exam: Friday, the 6th 07. followed by a closing celebration (parents, grandparents, and siblings are warmly welcome)
The courses offered include:
- Practical Lessons: Horseback Riding (Jumping and Dressage), Lunging, Ground Work, Riding on a Lead Rope, Vaulting
- Equine Practice: Working with Horses, Species-Appropriate Horse Care and Management
- Theoretical Instruction: Horse Care, Feeding, and Riding Techniques
Horseback riding instruction: in groups based on skill level (3 to 6 students)
Equipment: Riding helmet (no bicycle helmets), gloves, boots, chaps, ankle boots (sneakers to change into), riding breeches, training pants, or sturdy leggings
FN Textbooks: Understanding Horses—Handling and Ground Work, Guidelines for Riding and Driving. Volume 1: Basic Training for Riders and Horses.
Cost: €300.00 (riding course, including worksheets; €50.00 discount for riders from the Steinmühle Riding School). Exam fee, badge, and certificate: €35.00
“Fit in the Outdoors”: Course I from July 23–27 and Course II on July 30. – 03.08. (5 days each)
Target audience: riders who can sit securely in a canter (not beginners)
Time: 4:00 p.m. to approx. 7:00 p.m. (possibly longer)
The courses offered include:
5 riding sessions, 3 theory sessions
- Training in the relief seat, proper rein handling for cross-country riding, riding behind and side-by-side, rules for crossing roads, safety training, training on the outdoor arena/cross-country course, uphill and downhill riding, all three basic gaits in a group, crossing a water crossing.

Cost: €200.00 per week / 25% discount for club members; horses are provided.
Summer riding camp on Shetland ponies and small horses from July 23 to August 3
Target audience: Beginners and advanced riders ages 5 and up
Dates: Monday, July 23, through Friday, August 3, daily from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., except Saturday and Sunday.
Performance and Closing Celebration: August 3 (for parents, grandparents, and siblings).
The courses offered include:
- Caring for Horses: Praising, Grooming, Feeding, Bedding, Saddle Up, Bridling
- Horseback riding: In groups, on the lunge, on a lead rope, vaulting
- Other activities: Equestrian games, guided trail rides, free play
Horseback Riding Program: In small groups (3 to 4 children)
