A warm welcome to the Steinmühle Riding School!

Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced rider, with or without your own horse—
this is the place where everyone is in good hands.

About Us:

The Steinmühle Riding School, led by Beate Schridde (an A-licensed instructor), provides young horse lovers with expert and professional guidance as they grow into responsible “horse people.”
The program for riders and horses includes riding lessons in dressage and show jumping. Lessons are conducted on school horses.
Training and competition support are available with your own horse by arrangement.

Horseback riding is the harmonious union between horse and rider, built on intuition, experience, understanding, and trust. Only in this way can equestrianism become a way of life that connects horse and rider without words.
For us, the focus is on community, treating the animals with love, in a species-appropriate and responsible manner, holistic training, fun, and safety. Young people learn about keeping, caring for, and exercising horses.

Horseback Riding at Our School and Boarding School—A Tradition We’ve Had for Decades

In November 2025, Beate Schridde, a horse manager and riding instructor with an A-level coaching license, took over as director of the Steinmühle Riding School.

Beate Schridde has had close ties to the Steinmühle for many years and has previously served successfully as a trainer, riding stable manager, and consultant for the Steinmühle Riding School.

Beate Schridde is certainly no stranger to the region—and especially to Steinmühle. For decades, this native of Lower Saxony has introduced young riders to horses as a riding instructor and FN-certified trainer, guiding their development from the basics all the way to the advanced levels of competitive riding. With the same passion and dedication, she has also consistently trained young horses and competed with them. During her competitive career, she achieved success in show jumping up to the advanced class.

She was born into a family of riders and breeders: her brother Claus Schridde, himself a former successful competitive rider and stallion owner, is an avid horse breeder and one of Germany’s best-known equestrian journalists. Her sister, Almut Baule, was also successful in show jumping, and her son—Beate’s nephew Niclas—has made riding his profession. He completed his training at Paul Schockemöhle’s stable and now runs a show jumping stable at the family-owned facility in Rehren. At just 18 years old, he had already met the requirements for the German Gold Riding Badge.

Anyone who knows exactly what a good horse must offer and be capable of, and who knows from personal experience what a rider’s role should entail, is in high demand as a riding instructor and trainer. Nicola Pohl, an internationally successful rider based at the Dagobertshausen equestrian center, also learned to ride under Beate Schridde at the Steinmühle. Schridde guided Nicola Pohl’s equestrian career from simple riding competitions all the way to the Hesse Championships and the German Junior Championships.

You can almost sense that behind all these activities, even before a regular workday begins, lies a deep passion. The joy she finds in what she does puts into perspective the time and physical effort invested by this dedicated horsewoman, who handles horse trailers and trailers with such ease that it’s as if they were wheelbarrows. “It has to be that way,” she remarks casually, “after all, there’s valuable cargo inside.”

That’s right. Beate Schridde has driven not only four-legged competition winners but also quite a few neighing prize winners from equine performance tests. “Living sports equipment”—each with its own personality and different needs. “That’s what,” says the passionate rider, “sets it apart from other sports.”

Note

By arrangement, it is possible to take on a horse to care for or to share riding time. Anyone who owns their own horse is welcome to bring it along and integrate it into the boarding school community. We can provide individualized training support at the riding facility.

“Every riding lesson here is structured around set routines and procedures. The young people receive professional and attentive guidance and are shown exactly how to lead a horse out of its stall, how to halter, lead, tie, and groom it—and throughout, the instructors consistently provide important tips and advice on proper handling and potential hazards. These procedures continue through the entire process: saddling up, entering the arena—that is, the riding lesson itself—all the way to caring for the animals after the lesson.”

“We’ve been at the Steinmühle Riding School for 6 weeks now. My daughter is 7 years old and absolutely loves horses! We’re absolutely thrilled by the level of expertise, enthusiasm, and passion with which the instructors here are dedicated to training young horse lovers. You don’t see that very often!”
