We want to do justice to each individual

Promoting Independence & Individuality

We see it as our mission to foster students’ independence and provide them with individualized support to meet each student’s unique needs.
Here’s how we do it:

• Small learning groups
Taking a differentiated approach, teachers provide appropriate learning opportunities for individuals or small groups with similar academic abilities.

• Individualized instruction
Whenever time permits, we tailor assignments within regular classes to meet individual needs.

Semi-annual meetings between the homeroom teacher and each student allow for a nuanced assessment of each student’s individual learning situation. We develop a sense of how each young person is doing and initiate a dialogue-based approach to supporting their daily learning. Informal check-ins take place during class and, depending on the schedule, also during lunch break or mealtimes.

The Basic and Advanced Work (GuFi) program provides two additional weekly hours for assignments tailored to each student’s skill level.
In 5th grade, the curriculum includes foundational work in German (primarily focused on spelling) and mathematics, as well as challenging activities in the areas of language and science & technology.
In 6th grade, English is added as a subject. For all three subjects, there is a foundational program with customizable, more advanced requirements.

Starting in 6th grade, the Study Center takes on additional responsibilities for supporting and challenging our students. In addition to completing schoolwork, students have the opportunity to prepare for exams, study vocabulary, or attend subject-specific tutoring sessions in the core subjects.

Students in grades 8 through 10 take elective courses (WU). They can choose from courses in the language and arts area (including theater, band, art & crafts, Round Square), the science and technology area (including research, Lego & Programming, Sound & Light), the social sciences (e.g., powi+, Duke of Edinburgh Award, Foreign Countries, Beekeeping, Gardening), and sports (Rowing).
The year-long course facilitates cross-grade collaborative learning in the same subject area. It allows students to discover their individual abilities and develop their talents.

For grades 5 and 6, the lunch break begins at 12:30 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays with a group meal in the dining hall. Afterward, these students have access to a wide range of extracurricular activities until 2:00 p.m., tailored to their interests.
