Nela Haeberle (6c) is Marburg’s best story reader
You did a great job, Nela! At the city-level round of the nationwide reading competition for 6th graders, the award for best reading performance went to Steinmühlen student Nela Haeberle. She prevailed against a field of nine contestants and will soon represent our school and the city of Marburg in the district round. Our photo shows Nela with her German teacher, Lisa Braun, and her certificates.
Strengthening Reading Skills
An expert jury evaluated all the presentations based on a set of predetermined criteria. The children began by reading aloud from a book they had brought with them; the eventual winner, Nela, read from *Warrior Cats: Into the Wild* by Erin Hunter. In the second round, the contestants had to read aloud an unfamiliar passage from the book “Feo and the Wolves” by Katherine Rundell.
The reading competition has been organized by the German Publishers and Booksellers Association since 1959 and is held under the patronage of the Federal President. Its primary goals are to inspire a love of reading and to strengthen children’s reading skills. More than 600,000 children from all types of schools participate in the competition each year. The competition progresses through city, county, district, and state levels, culminating in the national finals.
