Halloween Party

Archive, News

On the evening before Reformation Day, we took advantage of the witching hour to throw a little Halloween party.

Amid terrifying clowns and ghostly girls, there were ice-cold little hands in the punch and gelatin worms in the cake. Even the teaching staff had transformed into a sort of “Suicide Squad.” Fortunately, though, the team didn’t have to defeat any invincible monsters—just keep an eye on the students.

An event worth repeating.

Fundraiser for the New Building: Hörtheatrale Brings the Mystery Play “Das gefleckte Band” to the Steinmühle

Archive, News

In conjunction with the mystery project that the 7th-grade students are currently working on in their project-based classes under the guidance of Melisande Lauginiger, Steinmühle and the Friends of Steinmühle were able to secure the participation of Daniel Sempf, an actor employed at the Marburg Schauspielhaus, along with Franziska Knetsch and Stefan Gille. On December 5 at 7 p.m. in the Steinmühle Forum, they will present their “audio theater” performance of the crime play “Das gefleckte Band.” The evening is part of a series of benefit events to raise funds for the interior design of the new Steinmühle building currently under construction.

Theater Meets Radio Drama

The Hörtheatrale has become a very popular and well-attended institution in Marburg when it comes to crime radio plays. In a captivating performance, three actors from Marburg will present Arthur Conan Doyle’s crime story “The Speckled Band” in the form of an audio play. The event will begin with a mystery story reading by a 7th-grade student. This story was written as part of the school’s mystery writing project and reveals great literary talent.

The evening promises to be exciting

The introduction of the characters is sure to have you guessing. With his pipe, a crackling fire, tea, and his faithful friend Dr. Watson, the legendary detective Sherlock Holmes sets out to shed light on the mystery. In the famous mystery “The Speckled Band,” Sherlock Holmes and John Watson investigate on behalf of Helen Stoner to solve the mysterious death of her sister—and to protect her from impending danger. Just as her sister did back then—who died under mysterious circumstances—Helen Stoner is also robbed of her sleep at night by an eerie, faint whistling sound. When the distraught woman, who had sought out Holmes in sheer terror, goes on to report that her sister had stammered the words “The Spotted Ribbon” and that a burnt-out match had been found in her hand, Sherlock Holmes knows that he has a case to solve at the old Stoke Moran estate—one that will also put both detectives in grave danger.

Donations for Interior Design

Since the event is organized as a fundraiser, admission is free for visitors. The Steinmühle welcomes donations, which will benefit the “Interior Design of the New Building” project. The event runs until 9 p.m. There will be an intermission.

To help us plan better, we ask that you reserve a ticket in advance. Tickets are now available at the Steinmühle office; please call 06421-40820.

Class 6b is running for the title of “Germany’s Best Class”

Archive, News

Class 6b at Steinmühle wants to become “Germany’s Best Class (2018)” and is applying to participate in the quiz show of the same name on the Kinderkanal (https://www.kika.de/die-beste-klasse-deutschlands/index.html).

Sixth- and seventh-grade classes are eligible to participate if they submit the required materials to the station by November 9. Entries can take the form of a video, for example, which is what Class 6b decided to do.

Under the guidance of their homeroom teacher, Nicole Faß, the class has been planning this video practically since the beginning of the school year, initially focusing their efforts on class council meetings. A “directing team” formed afterward then wrote a script based on the ideas gathered from the class. Among other things, the students found the experience they gained from the radio play project at the end of 5th grade helpful, since they had also had to write a script for the recordings there.

With the generous support of art teacher Ines Vielhaben, the first scenes have now been filmed: classroom clips, sports scenes, outdoor scenes, and introductions of the students. Additional scenes were filmed in collaboration with Mr. Bonn, the uncle of one of the students, who works in this field and has also agreed to edit the application video for the class.

The girls and boys in Class 6b are really enjoying the project. In addition to the title “Best Class in Germany,” the competition offers a class trip to Scotland as a prize.

SV Designs Visionary “Steinmühle 2025” Wall for In-School Teacher Professional Development

Archive, News

Over the past few weeks, the students of the Steinmühlen Student Council have presented their plan to all homeroom teachers: to design a “Visionary Wall 2025” for the school’s internal teacher training (SchiLf) on November 20 and 21. A form with guiding questions served as the basis for the students’ feedback on the content; the answers were collected through the respective class councils. The student council has now reviewed and evaluated the responses together with guidance teacher Dirk Lange. In the next step, the two student body presidents will use the feedback to create a short PowerPoint presentation with the results, which they will then present during the SchiLf session.
