Our Boarding School Weekend
Following the traditional Friday house evenings, which we spent cooking and eating together as well as going to the movies, there were once again numerous activities with the boarding school community last weekend. In addition to sports activities like soccer and rock climbing, there was plenty of time for relaxation—during the Beauty and Wellness event, we unwound and treated ourselves to a break from everyday life in an atmospheric, candlelit setting. We made the masks and scrubs ourselves using natural ingredients. Of course, we couldn’t end the session without a massage! The weekend also included a lively game night in the tea room. We pulled out the classics “Activity” and “Taboo” and were surprised by how eloquent some of our fellow players were!
Last weekend also marked the founding of the “Steinmühle Bowling Club.” Armed with sneakers and 1-euro coins, eleven bowling-crazy recreational athletes headed to the nearby bowling alley in Cappel. In this diverse group, there were, of course, a few who had confused skittles with bowling or even boules and were surprised by the somewhat dated-looking venue; but after a short while, everyone recognized and enjoyed the charm of skittles. From then on, not a single ball sat still. After a few failed attempts that ended in “puddles,” new throwing techniques were tried out: Sometimes the ball was nudged slowly and gently, sometimes it was sent onto the floor with momentum and speed, or even thrown with one’s back to the lane through outstretched legs—and in the end, the “strike” bell rang more than once.
Similarly, our girls kicked off their first forays into sales by actively participating in the girls’ flea market at the Rittalarena in Wetzlar. Armed with countless items, they set out at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, lovingly set up their booth, and immediately reinvested the few euros they earned. This event certainly won’t be the last of its kind.
