Steinmühle and the Marburg Rotary Club Are Committed to Healthy Eating
On March 24, hundreds of students at Steinmühle found a healthy and equally appealing buffet of snack options in the schoolyard. It was prepared by eighth- and ninth-graders in the “Catering” elective class under the guidance of Mr. Wagler. In doing so, they showed their classmates how easy it is to prepare healthy and tasty snacks for break time. The days of industrially produced sugar bombs are over.
The ingredients were funded by the Rotary Club of Marburg. The event is part of a nationwide campaign called “Healthy Kids,” through which Rotary reaches out to parents, teachers, educators, and healthcare professionals to raise awareness about the importance of healthy eating and physical activity for children and to bring about a shift in mindset.
The Rotary “Healthy Kids” campaign, through which—in collaboration with the “Association of Friends and Supporters of the Steinmühle Country School Camp e.V.”— , fits perfectly into Steinmühle’s overall concept, as we are currently working toward certification as a “Health-Promoting School.” Healthy nutrition plays a central role in this effort. The school has already taken many important steps in this regard. For example, the kitchen of the all-day and boarding school—which prepares up to 400 lunches daily—is the first school in Hesse to be awarded the Premium Certificate by the German Nutrition Society.
