Victory for both Steinmühlen teams at the city-wide JtfO soccer tournament for Age Groups II and III on September 22, 2016

For the first time in Steinmühle’s history, two Steinmühle soccer teams competed in the city finals of “Youth Trains for the Olympics” in competition classes II (born in 2001 and 2002) and III (born in 2003 and 2004)—and promptly won both tournaments!
With this result, both teams have qualified for the district finals next spring.

For the “older team,” a victory was practically a must. The core of the team consists of the players who competed in the state finals this past July. The team was supplemented by players born in 2002, who were already part of the WK III team in 2015 and caused a sensation by finishing in 4th place at the state finals. These well-established team dynamics certainly played a role in ensuring that our team once again stood out at this year’s city tournament with its strong cohesion and exceptional team spirit. As a result, they won every game convincingly, and Steinmühle was already declared the winner before the final match. A 4–0 victory over the Emil-von-Behring School was followed by a 5–1 win against the Elisabeth School, and the final match against the Sophie-von-Brabant School was also won 3–0.

The younger Steinmühlen soccer players from WK III took the field in this lineup for the first time. “On paper,” the team was anything but a favorite, but they played their way into the tournament very well and demonstrated great team unity and beautiful combination play as early as their second game. In their first game against the Gymnasium Philippinum, they drew 1–1; this was followed by a commanding 4–0 victory over the Elisabethschule and, in the decisive final game, a 3–1 win against the Emil-von-Behring-Schule.

Congratulations to both teams and their players! The performance of both teams gives us hope for the district finals.
