“Murder at the Steinmühle” — Educators Create a Mystery Simulation Game for the Boarding School Community

On Sunday, March 20, 2016, the boarding school students set out to find the murderer of the headmaster. After a power outage, his body was found on the threshold of his office. He left behind his wife and a wronged secretary. But they weren’t the only ones considered suspects. The construction worker responsible for the power outage also had to fight to prove the credibility of his alibi. But before he would reveal any information, he had to be bribed with “Teestubendollar.” These could be earned by playing small games and completing tasks. While the construction worker wanted cash, you could get the homeless man to talk with (non-alcoholic) wheat beer. Or was it actually the cleaning lady who was allegedly seen with the building manager by the Dutch kiosk owner?
As you can see, there was a mystery role-playing game over the weekend that took place throughout the entire campus. The students had to question the teachers—who were in disguise—about their alibis and possible motives. However, they only received information if they completed tasks. Using their own currency and plenty of deductive reasoning, two students from the Westfalenhaus identified the culprit after 2.5 hours. Of course, it was the jilted secretary, who had been having an affair with the boarding school director and had been fired.
