Pop Meets Chamber Music at the Winter Concert

,

Not everyone was able to get a seat. That’s how great the interest was in the Steinmühle Winter Concert. The guests at the Forum enjoyed an entertaining evening of music, singing, and dancing—and there was probably no one there who didn’t find something to their personal taste.

“We’re reaping the rewards of past years here”—no one could have put it better than Ulrike Wilmsmeyer, the event’s overall organizer. Daniel Sans, a fellow music teacher and concert tenor, nodded in agreement. The two of them co-hosted the evening.

Just looking at the list of titles gives a sense of the diversity of the performances. Modern chart hits like “Hot2Touch” by Felix Jaehn were performed through song and dance, as was Richard Strauss’s Opus 27 No. 4, which, in the midst of the gloomy season, offered the message “…and tomorrow the sun will shine again” — masterfully performed by Steinmühlen student and star violinist Bodam Lee, Gabrielle Sans (piano), and Daniel Sans (tenor).

The evening program featured Wind Ensemble Class 6, the WU Musical, the Swing & Sing Club, the Chamber Music Club, the Upper School Choir, and the Concert Band, which can be proud of the clear tones produced by its tuba player.
