They did it again in the finals: Jan Audretsch and Justus Schneider in the Pangea Regional Finals in the Gold category!

,

The regional finals of the 2016 Pangea Competition were held nationwide on June 4, 2016, as part of seven regional final events. The final math competition and the awards ceremony took place on the same day. The regional final for Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland, and Hesse took place at the Frankfurter Hof in Mainz.
To qualify for the regional final, participants had to place in the top 10 in their respective regions (federal state or states). The final exams began simultaneously at all locations at 11:00 a.m. and lasted 60 minutes. After the exam, the results were evaluated on site and announced at the awards ceremony. Every participant received a gift, a T-shirt, and a certificate; those who placed 1st through 10th nationwide also received cash prizes.

Our two Steinmühlen contestants were clearly having a great day and both finished in the ranks that earned them gold medals:
Justus Schneider placed second in the Hesse rankings and 29th nationwide in his grade level (9th grade).
Jan Audretsch (Class 6b) went one better and also finished as the second-best student from Hesse in his group, achieving an outstanding 4th place at the national level!

The school is proud not only of Jan and Justus’s performance, but also of all the school’s participants who did so well this year, advancing to the intermediate round.
The participants in the Kangaroo Math Competition were also exceptionally successful, with five students from Class 5a standing out in particular. (See the “NEWS” updates from April 15 and 25!)

The school congratulates the young mathematicians and will continue to count on them!

Addendum: If you’d like to get an idea of what the Pangea competition is all about, you can take a look here at the problems for 6th grade—the same ones that Jan Audretsch was given:
