Lucas Schäfer will compete in the Olympic Games

At the qualifying races on Lucerne’s Rotsee, Lucas Schäfer (class of 2014) and his team celebrated their greatest success to date in the lightweight four.

After a comfortable victory in the preliminary round, the DRV boat held on to second place from the start of the race, and by the time they crossed the finish line, the athletes knew for sure: “We’re going to Rio!”

This makes it clear that a series of training sessions and training camps are on the horizon leading up to the Olympics, and that Lucas will be seen very little in Marburg until then. This made it all the more delightful that Lucas recently stopped by a practice session for the young rowers at the Steinmühlen Rowing Club to talk shop with his coach and mentor, Martin Strohmenger, and to answer the young rowers’ curious questions.
