Issues such as the environment, nature conservation, ecology, and sustainability have always been important to Steinm\u00fchle. So it\u2019s no surprise that Steinm\u00fchle supports the Marburg-Biedenkopf district in its efforts to become a Fairtrade district and is a member of the district\u2019s \u201cFairtrade Steering Group.\u201d It was within this group that the idea arose to host the district\u2019s planned \u201cSustainability Day\u201d at Steinm\u00fchle. The events will take place this Saturday, September 18, from 10:45 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The event will be streamed online. <\/p>\n

It was actually supposed to be a really big day: featuring a wide range of presentations, activities, booths in the schoolyard, and conversations between visitors and the student body. To ensure planning certainty, we decided against holding the event in this format. Pandemic-related restrictions are still in place, uncertainties remain, and disruptions cannot be ruled out. It is therefore with a heavy heart that the organizers are switching to an online format for activities aimed at the wider public. At the Steinm\u00fchle Forum, there will be a stage program presenting key elements related to the event\u2019s theme\u2014in a small yet significant and compact setting. The event will be streamed live at the scheduled time via a link on www.marburg-biedenkopf.de<\/a>. <\/p>\n

When are we taking action to protect the climate, and when aren’t we?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Principal Bernd Holly will deliver the opening remarks. Following that, District Administrator Kirsten Fr\u00fcndt and Egon Vaupel, chairman of the Steinm\u00fchle Marburg e.V. school association, will join her on stage. The program will then focus on the 2021 Citizens\u2019 Sustainability Budget, which supports public-interest, sustainable projects and ideas from civil society. Afterward, choir director, tenor, and conductor Daniel Sans\u2014who is also a teacher at Steinm\u00fchle\u2014will provide musical entertainment together with his wife, Marie Sans. <\/p>\n

At around 12:30 p.m., the event will take on both a scientific and practical dimension: Dr. Gerhard Reese, professor of environmental psychology, will give a talk on the topic \u201cClimate Crisis = Behavioral Crisis? What Holds Us Back and Motivates Us to Take Action to Protect the Climate.\u201d <\/p>\n

The event will conclude with a poetry slam on environmental, social, and economic sustainability.<\/p>\n

In-person edition following the pandemic <\/strong><\/p>\n

“When we take stock of all the ways we\u2019re already addressing the topic of sustainability in our daily school life and on the Steinm\u00fchle campus, we end up with a long and impressive list,” report the school association board, the administration, and the school leadership. There are several points worth mentioning in each of the following areas: mobility, buildings, energy, projects on campus, curriculum content, and nutrition. \u2014 A broad range of topics that will soon be covered in greater detail on the Steinm\u00fchle platforms. \u201cWe\u2019re also looking forward to holding Sustainability Day after the pandemic just as it was originally planned,\u201d adds Managing Director Dirk Konnertz. <\/p>\n

The Digital Sustainability Day on September 18 is the best way to get started with this topic.<\/p>\n
