As one of seven remaining students from the local area who won their district rounds at the 50th Hessian Mathematics Competition, the eighth-grader from Steinm\u00fchlen recently took the exam in Kassel that will determine who becomes the state champion. <\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>50,000 took part<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A total of 50,796 eighth-grade students from 509 Hauptschulen, Realschulen, Gesamtschulen, and Gymnasien participated in the school-level round of the 50th Hessian Mathematics Competition. In the second round, 1,924 students remained in the competition, and after the third round, 173 district winners remained across Hesse. <\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Honoring the State Champions  <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Now that the final exam has been taken, Jan and the entire Steinm\u00fchlen team\u2014made up of classmates, teachers, and school administrators\u2014are eagerly awaiting the final decision. The awards ceremony for the state winners will take place on June 12 in Darmstadt. <\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Math as a Door Opener<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Even back in Kassel, after completing their work, the young mathematicians received high praise from company and school representatives for their achievements to date. VetterTec GmbH, a company based in Kassel, the Hessenmetall Nordhessen employers\u2019 association\u2014which is supporting the competition for the 17th time\u2014and the Kassel State School Board highlighted the young people\u2019s outstanding achievements, ambition, and dedication, describing mathematics as a key skill that opens many doors in one\u2019s career. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/steinmuehle.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Meine_OPM_2018-05-11_Seite_26.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10359\" src=\"https:\/\/steinmuehle.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Meine_OPM_2018-05-11_Seite_26.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2720\" height=\"976\"><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mathematics is his specialty\u2014and Jan Audretsch has now impressively demonstrated this in yet another competition following his qualification for the National Mathematics Olympiad.
