Despite the unfortunate injuries to two of its starting players (Finn Steinfeld and Hannes Schweitzer), the Steinm\u00fchle basketball team competed in Competition Class II at the regional finals of the \u201cYouth Trains for the Olympics\u201d competition.<\/p>\n

Our team lost the first game against Ostschule Gie\u00dfen by a wide margin, 17\u201330. The basketball players from Gie\u00dfen gave our team a hard time, and unfortunately, our team couldn\u2019t really get into the game. \u201cPerhaps due in part to injuries, it took us a little longer to establish a rhythm and readjust,\u201d Coach Marc Bepperling explained in his report. <\/p>\n

In the second game against the team from Wetzlar, a win was now needed to qualify for the semifinals. In a very close, evenly matched game, the Steinm\u00fchlen team managed to hold on to their 18\u201317 lead until the final whistle. <\/p>\n

Having finished second in our group, our team now had to face the winner of Group B in the semifinals. However, the very strong team from Lich proved unbeatable. Our team lost 8\u201341, with the high proportion of club players on the opposing team making a very clear difference in this match. <\/p>\n

The result was a complete success nonetheless<\/strong><\/p>\n

Despite resting our regulars against Lich, Steinm\u00fchle was unfortunately unable to emerge victorious in the third-place match (against KFG Homburg).<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a real shame that we weren\u2019t able to start the district tournament with our previously successful \u201cstarting five.\u201d \u201cQualifying for the regional tournament and finishing in 4th place overall was still a complete success,\u201d agreed school sports coordinator Michael Neirich. <\/p>\n

Steinm\u00fchle wishes the two injured individuals a speedy and full recovery and thanks Noel and Luka for their spontaneous willingness to help.<\/p>\n
