A surprisingly large crowd turned out for the second \u201cOpen Stage\u201d<\/strong> event .<\/strong> And on a cold winter evening, the program warmed everyone up: there were solo instrumentalists performing contemporary and classical music, powerful vocalists, and jazz ensembles playing well-loved standards. <\/em><\/p>\n

The youngest musicians, Ben Luis Peters<\/strong> and Nina Simmer<\/strong> (both in 5b), performed \u201cKleiner L\u00e4nder,\u201d<\/em> a catchy four-hand piano piece by the well-known German music educator Anne Terzibatschitsch.<\/p>\n

For her solo piece, Nina Simmer<\/strong> also chose a work by a contemporary composer: \u201cNuvole bianche\u201d<\/em> by Ludovico Einaudi.<\/p>\n

Anna Steinfeld<\/strong> (6b) displayed remarkable confidence at the piano as she performed \u201cAmelie\u201d<\/em> by Yann Thiersen.<\/p>\n

The three musicians from grades 5 and 6 thus ensure a successful start.<\/p>\n

During the last musical events of the school year, it had already become clear that Steinm\u00fchle once again has outstanding singers who can captivate an audience. Jolene Junge<\/strong> (Class 11a) performed \u201cBack to Black\u201d<\/em> by Amy Winehouse\u2014a challenging song\u2014with astonishing ease.<\/p>\n

Johanna Sodmann<\/strong> (12d) wowed the audience with Pink\u2019s \u201cJust Give Me a Reason.\u201d <\/em> Sonja Mecke<\/strong> (11a) sang \u201cCloser\u201d<\/em> by The Chainsmokers, accompanied by Arthur Laux<\/strong> (11a), who was in high spirits. The progressive house track performed by the two 11th-grade students was met with enthusiastic applause from the audience. <\/p>\n

Frank Wemme<\/strong> (SL) and Tom Herfert<\/strong> (9c) demonstrated with \u201cRound Midnight\u201d by <\/em>jazz pianist Thelonious Monk that a piano piece can also be perfectly suited for a performance with guitar and saxophone. Together with Samuel Ruff<\/strong> (9b) on trombone and Marit Winterstein<\/strong> (7c) on euphonium, the two performed \u201cLullaby of Birdland,\u201d<\/em> a mainstream jazz classic, with remarkable confidence. <\/p>\n

Fynn Konnertz<\/strong> (9b) amazed the audience not only with his guitar playing but also with his technical skills. He played several\u201cimprovisations\u201d<\/em> with remarkable richness of sound by using his looper as a real-time overdubber\u2014that is, he was able to add his previously played solo part as an accompaniment to his performance. <\/p>\n

The Classical Music section was kicked off by \u201cguest student\u201d Alexander Despa<\/strong>. The eighth-grader impressed the audience with Chopin\u2019s ever-popular \u201cNocturne, Op. 9, No. 2.\u201d<\/em> <\/p>\n

Bodam Lee<\/strong> (10b), a successful participant in many music competitions, had once again set her sights on something special with her violin .<\/em> She performed the second movement, \u201cRomance,\u201d<\/em> from Henryk Wieniawski\u2019s \u201cViolin Concerto No. 2<\/em> .\u201d<\/em> The audience was impressed. <\/p>\n

For several months now, Jieni Zhang<\/strong> (10b) has been a valuable addition to our school\u2019s classical music department. Her performance of the \u201cMarche Fun\u00e8bre\u201d<\/em> (Funeral March) was the second Chopin highlight of the evening. Jieni\u2019s piano playing perfectly captured the solemnity of the piece throughout. <\/p>\n

Nelly Endres<\/strong> (8b) brought the evening to a successful close with a modern classic on the piano. She played Gershwin\u2019s \u201cI Got Rhythm\u201d<\/em> at a tempo that had everyone moving along \u2026 <\/p>\n
